patti smith is amazing on so many levels. i've always really admired her buttoned-up punk aesthetic - she makes looking messy equal looking beautiful, and i love that.

when i was a teenage whore

basically every other day i get sick of looking at fashion on the internet -- everyone looks too young or old, everyone looks too purposefully messy or perfect, everyone is posturing, social status and blog comments and cattiness ... it's all so boring. so then i spend the day looking at photos of courtney love, or kathleen hannah, or siouxsie sioux - women who not only thought about what they wore, but also had a personal message behind those clothes - and i feel whole again.

all of these women are so fantastically, singularly their own. and i, in turn, am completely fascinated by them. i like to think i incorporate a little of everything i love into the way i dress - the way i live my life - and, if so, these women are certainly centerpieces.
