i love everything about this! the top hat, the jewelry, the holes in the shirt ... perfect.

we had a super busy but SUPER GOOD day - errands errands, thrifting, a delicious lunch, shopping, photoshoot, post office, a delicious dinner. i FINALLY got a new purse - it is black pebbled leather with tons of hardware & i love it. i had been carrying a vintage bucket bag i got off of etsy for the last few months, but it was too small/annoyingly shaped. i also got a wonderfully simple black lace dress - loose and flowing i am sure it will get tons of use this summer. and my lovely friend desiree gifted me with a beautiful vintage sequined dress! she is such a treat, i love our photoshoots (for her vintage etsy store prance and swagger) more than i probably should. annnnnnnnyways, today was wonderful & now i am going to laze about on the internet and eat candy.

at the end of a long day

anna karina is an exceptional beauty. in "pierrot le fou" - directed by jean-luc godard and released in 1965 - she plays her classic "wild child" role to the hilt, and looks astounding while doing so. i LOVE all of godards films - his use of the fourth wall, his 1960's hate for the bourgeois, the blocks & pops of color in his costuming and sets. and his consistent use of anna is another amazing choice - she lifted his cinema into another realm.

yet the brilliant color, the rapid rhythms, and even the song-and-dance numbers only serve to color the unhappiness, making this a vibrant tragicomedy. the film veers between exuberance and exhaustion, yet for all its free-wheeling formal invention, this is one of godards most emotionally direct films, a piercing lament on the perils of love.

older films will always have my heart for their ability to address life beautifully, straight on, and with such pure excitement & love.

i had my first successful thrifting day in quite some time on monday - portland has been super lacking in good finds lately. walked away with a incredibly well fitting black overcoat, a huge black lace button up, a pair of much needed black pirate boots, a super cute 90's fleur de lys sundress, and a black velvet gunne sax maxi skirt. the heartbreaking part was that i FINALLY found an amazing leopard print coat that ACTUALLY fit me - but it was falling apart and super overpriced. soooo sad, but i am pleased with my haul nonetheless.

additionally, prance and swagger is the most amazing etsy store EVER! it is run by my darling friend desiree, and has the loveliest high-end vintage -- a lot of people in portland sell vintage clothing, but desiree has true style and vision. such stunning pieces; if i wasn't a flat broke student i would be handing her money hand over fist!
